Finnish Study: Vitamin D deficiency can be fatal

A new study from the University of East Finland indicates that deficiencies of vitamin D may increase the risk of death of a person reported on 3 Finnish media.

The researchers studied the effects of vitamin D on more than 1,000 people between 53 and 73 years of age who were free of cancer or vascular disease but found that 65 percent of the subjects had low levels of vitamin D. The subjects were monitored for an average of nine years. A total of 87 participants died during the study.
The study confirmed that vitamin D deficiency increases the risk of chronic diseases. Individuals with low vitamin D levels are twice as likely to die prematurely than those with high levels of the vitamin.
During the summer months in Finland, people can get vitamin D from exposure to the sun But the people who live in this country must depend on the Vitamin D from food or supplements during the darkest months of the year.
